About Us
Membership
We are welcoming and inclusive of all who wish to serve in the Northwest Scots Honor Guard, regardless of gender, race, nationality, creed, or ethnicity. The only stipulations of membership are that persons must be citizens of good standing in their community, and agree to payment of the annual membership dues. Volunteer work is encouraged, but we are respectful of time, skills, and availability. The benefits of membership include the quarterly newsletter, informative quarterly gatherings for business, entertainment, and presentations of Scottish cultural or historical significance, the annual Christmas dinner, and the possibility of learning more about your Celtic heritage with the assistance of our resident genealogist. Come join the fun.
Recruitment
Were you in a high school band, college ROTC, or the military? Would you like to continue those skills by learning the Scottish military style of march? Would you like to be part of an award-winning community service organization that performs in parades, weddings, funerals, festivals, and commemorative events? You’re invited to join us for a practice session to see what the NWSHG is all about and to meet the members of our marching unit.
Donors/Sponsors
Northwest Scots Honor Guard is seeking tax-deductible donations to help defray costs of providing free services to veterans for weddings, funerals, and commemorative events. As a 501-C-3 tax exempt public service organization, we can issue receipts for documentation of gifts and donations. Members of the NWSHG do not take a salary. All contributions go toward operation costs for services to veterans. By being a donor you can share in this important mission. To become a participant/donor, please contact Col. Daniel Gepford, 503.807.5114.
Weddings
The NWSHG participates in weddings where the bride and groom request a Scottish-style service, including bagpipes, and the arch of swords. Members of the Color Guard wear their kilts and Glengarry bonnets to add to the festivities. The fee for this service is reasonable.
Parades
NWSHG marching unit has participated in numerous parades throughout Oregon and Washington. They have been awarded many trophies for the quality of their performance. Parades in which we participated include the Portland, Oregon Grand Floral Parade, the Albany, Oregon Veterans Day Parade, and Pioneer Days Parade and Picnic in Brownsville, Oregon.
Memorials
The precision marching and regal uniforms of the NWSHG add elements of respect and solemnity to any memorial service or commemorative event. Performances are adapted to the requests of families and organizations that contract for services. The NWSHG provides services free of charge to veterans and their families.
